The national core curriculum for basic education encourages teachers to organise lessons to take place also outside the classroom. Even if learning takes place more and more outside the school, the versatile and safe learning environment offered by the school provide a strong support for the growth of the pupil. The purpose is to make learning outside the classroom an integral part of studying.

  • It can for instance mean visiting libraries, other schools, kindergartens and cooperating with local companies.
  • It can also mean studying the nature around the school premises, going on a fishing trip to a nearby river, making art outside the classroom, etc.

The idea is to integrate all the topics to be part of the students' everyday life and make them see the purpose of studying: they don't study just because of school and exams but they learn for life.
